Welcome to the Harmans Cross Residents Club
The Residents Club, which is a sub-committee of the Village Hall Management Committee, was set up in February 2008 to provide members and their guests with somewhere in the village where they could meet, enjoy a drink and meet their friends and neighbours in a convivial atmosphere. A small annual membership fee was charged (see ‘Rules’ link below – details due to be updated soon for 2015), although members now join for £5 for life membership. Members can bring guests to Club events. We also provide a bar for other Management Committee and Village Club social and fundraising events, such a Movie and Music Nights (but not for other hirers).
In the old hall we used to open the bar two or three times a month when the hall was free. We tried to make it as informal and cosy as possible with the addition of spotlights above the bar, a rug and two bar stools in front of it and dimmed lighting above the chairs and tables, but it still felt like an old-style village hall. During that time we obtained a grant (see ‘History’) to buy more suitable bistro tables and more comfortable chairs which are now used for our Club Nights and other events in the new hall and meeting room (the latter being our usual venue).
We provide a range of wines, bitter and lager beer, cider, crisps, peanuts and soft drinks as well as ‘mixed drinks’, e.g. gin & tonic and Pimm’s – all at reasonable prices. We now usually meet once a month on a Friday – dates available on village noticeboards and in The Dubber, our parish magazine.
When the new hall opened we held the Club every Friday to assess demand from our members. The new hall is so much more attractive to residents that, since we held our reopening night on 23 July 2010, our membership has continued to increase and stood at 112 at the beginning of 2015. With so many other activities taking place in the hall, it was decided to reduce the frequency of evening meetings to the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month, with the occasional special event, but lower attendances have led us to reduce this to once a month – again please check The Dubber for details
To join, please complete the application form from the ‘Rules’ link below and follow the instructions.
